How To Configure Netgear Router?

Configuring a Netgear router is not difficult if you follow the quick setup procedure given on this page. Before configuring the router settings, make sure that you have completed the basic setup. If you are configure Netgear router for the first time, follow these steps.

How To Configure Netgear Router
  • First, connect your Netgear router to your modem using a standard Ethernet cable.
  • Next, connect the router to a computer using another Ethernet cable.
  • Connect the router to an electrical outlet using the supplied power cord and turn it on.
  • You can also connect your computer to the router wirelessly using the Wi-Fi credentials.
  • The wireless network credentials are available on the router’s label.
  • After connecting the router to the computer, open the default browser.
  • Enter the router’s IP address in the URL field and press the Enter key to open the router’s login portal.
  • You can also identify the router’s IP address using the Command Prompt app.
  • To do so, click the Start menu and type ‘cmd’ in the search panel.
  • From the search result, give a right-click on the Command Prompt app and select the Run as administratoroption.
  • In the Command Prompt window, type ‘ipconfig’ and press the Enter key.
  • Scroll down to the Default Gateway section and note down the router’s IP address.
  • On the router’s login portal, enter the default login credentials and click the Login button.
  • The default username is ‘admin,’ and ‘password’ is the default password for your Netgear router.
  • On the router’s settings page, click the Advanced tab and select Setup Wizard.
  • Click the Yes radio button and select Next.
  • Once the router detects the Internet connection, enter a new login password and confirm it.
  • Click Next and wait until the ‘Congratulations!’ message is displayed.
  • If the Firmware Update Assistant prompts you to update the router’s firmware, search for the available firmware update and install them.
  • Once updated, restart your router and log in to the router’s administrative interface again with the help of the newly created login credentials.
