How to Connect Hotmail to Mac Mail

Hotmail, now known as Microsoft, offers a web-based email service. On the website, you will be able to create an email account with hotmail.com as the domain name. Hotmail also offers many ways to sort and categorize your emails.The use of Hotmail is handy, but it offers more stability and power in the Apple’s built-in Mac Operating System. You can use the Hotmail that is available for download for Mac. Here are the steps to connect Hotmail to Mac mail using both IMAP and POP3.

Access Hotmail with IMAP Settings

Configure your Mac OS mail with Windows Live Hotmail.

Follow the steps carefully to configure Apple Mail with your Microsoft account using IMAP.

Launch your Mac OS.

Open your Apple Mail account .

Select the Mail option and click Add account.

If you do not find Outlook in the list, click on Other Mail Account. Click Continue.

In the Name field, make sure you entered the name correctly.

Enter the Hotmail email address in the Email address field.

Enter the Hotmail mail password in the Email password field.

Click on Sign In.

Your Mac device will display a new window asking you to select the app you want to use for the account.

Click the Mail checkbox and click Done. The IMAP settings will be configured automatically.

Manual configuration details:

Incoming mail server: imap-mail.outlook.com
Incoming server port: 993
Incoming Mail server encryption: TLS
Outgoing mail server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Outgoing server port: 587
Outgoing mail server encryption: STARTTLS
The IMAP will be configured.

Access Hotmail with POP3 settings

To use the POP settings, POP must first be enabled in your Windows Live Hotmail Account.
Log in to your Hotmail email account by entering the correct login email id and password.
Select the settings icon on the right corner of the window.
Click View all outlook settings> Email> Sync Email.
Select the checkbox Let Devices, And Apps use POP.
Click Save to save the settings.
Now, open the Mac OS mail application.
Click the Mail option and select Add Account.
Select Other Mail Account, click Continue.
The Add email account box will now open.
Enter the email id in the email address field.
Enter the password in the password field.
The mail application will not automatically initialize the POP settings.

Under Account Type enter the following,
For incoming mail servers, enter pop-mail.outlook.com.
For outgoing mail server, enter smtp-mail.outlook.com.
Enter your Email id and password.
The POP connection settings are as follows:
Incoming mail server: pop-mail.outlook.com
Incoming Server port: 995
Incoming server encryption: TLS
Outgoing mail server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Outgoing Server port: 587
Outgoing Server encryption: STARTTLS
Click on the Sign In button to complete the POP server configuration on your Hotmail account.
