Set up your Alexa Guard

Before you begin, you should enable Alexa Guard. Follow these instructions for the detailed steps.

  • On your smartphone, install the Alexa app.
  • Launch the app. On the Home screen, tap on the Menu icon and select Settings.
  • On the Settings page, select the Guard option.
  • When prompted, enter your zip code as the Alexa app requires the code for the Away Lightning feature.

Activate Alexa Guard

  • Once you have enabled Alexa Guard, just say to your Echo, "Alexa, I'm leaving." Now, its mode will be automatically changed to "Away." When it is set in this mode, it will send notifications to your mobile phone when it hears a dangerous noise like a smoke alarm or glass breaking sound.
  • These notifications also include an audio clip so that you can hear the noise yourself. If you think that the noise is not dangerous, you can select the Drop-In option on your Echo device. But, usually, Alexa Guard gives you an alert only when it detects a potential hazard.
  • Are you wondering about the devices that support Alexa Guard? To your surprise, Alexa Guard supports all generations of Amazon Echo devices, including Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Echo Plus, Amazon Echo Show, Amazon Echo Spot, and Amazon Echo Input.
  • Moreover, Alexa Guard also works with your existing security systems, including Ring Car Alarm, ADT Pulse, and ADT Control.
  • If you want to enhance the features of your Alexa Guard, you can take the Alexa Guard Plus premium subscription.
